“Does Sequim have gas lines for stoves and cooktops?,” is a very common question for retirees looking at homes in the Sequim area. Here’s the answer. Sequim does not have gas lines like many metropolitan areas around the country. What Sequim does have is propane tanks, which can be leased or purchased.
Gas Lines in Sequim
Out of 884 residential listings as of this date, only 26 have propane cooktop stoves. That means that 97% of the homes in Clallam County are electric, not propane. Of course, propane and even better gas, gives you more control if you are a professional chef or a serious cook. Many of my clients prefer propane, and a high quality propane cooktop in a house may be an advantage. Even if the home you are considering only has electric appliances, it sometimes is possible to bring in a propane line and install a propane cooktop. On the other hand, many people prefer electric.
Gas Lines (Propane) vs. Electric
While it may be said that propane is better for cooking, there are some disadvantages. Propane can be more dangerous than electric. Electric doesn’t have the potential to explode if a pilot light isn’t working or there is a leak. Gas or propane used to be cheaper, but with increases in propane prices that may not be the case any more. But a key advantage of propane is better temperature control. Depending on how you like to cook, the choice is yours.
