Have you ever thought about buying one of the old Sequim farmhouses for your retirement home? Not many do, but Sequim is a century old agricultural area, and there are many 100 year old Sequim farmhouses. Some are in incredibly good condition, and with 5 or 10 acres, there’s room for a mini-farm.
Sequim Farmhouses with History
With the help of a midwife, I delivered my daughter in a 96 year old Sequim farmhouse very similar to the farmhouse in this photo. That was 17 years ago. I’ve always wished farmhouses could talk. What stories they could tell us of life a century ago.
Sequim Farmhouses Built Better?
Many of the old Sequim farmhouses were built with hardwood planks, and if the house was built with a decent foundation, these homes are still standing strong. Depending on how well the homes were maintained by the many families that have lived in them, they will be either quite livable today or ready to be plowed down.
I recently sold an old home built in the 1930’s, and it is as solid as the day it was built. Instead of two by fours in the walls, the house was built with thicker hardwood. Instead of two by sixes in the floor, this home has three by sevens. The full concrete basement doesn’t have a crack in the walls, nor in the floors.
They’re hard to find, but there are a few old Sequim farmhouses that are worthy.

Chuck,
My wife and I are browsing on-line for homes and property in the Olympic Peninsula area. I remember visiting Sequim nearly 50 years ago and enjoying it very much. I am originally from Moses Lake, Washington.
We are from San Diego and consider the crowding and drought conditions more of a problem than it was years ago. We are considering a move into the Pacific Northwest.
We are interested in acreage property with a house. Two to 10 acres in size, with an old farm house, will do. I appreciate the history of an older structure and am not averse to renovating a rundown structure. Newer structures are fine too. We are interested in marine activity such as fishing and boating, so would like to be reasonably close to launch areas. Presently, we are looking in the $300,000 and under range. If any properties come available, we are interested in hearing about them.
Thanks.
