Is it hard to find a home with a shop in the Sequim and Port Angeles area? It is, and here’s why. Your ideal property would require the right lot, the right home, and the right shop or barn. Those are three important elements that must come together in the same property that just happens to be for sale at the time you are looking. What are the odds of flipping a coin and getting heads twice in a row? The first time you flip the coin the time odds are 50%, but the odds of getting heads two times in a row are 1/2 times 1/2 or 1 in 4 (25%). Now let’s take that one step further. What are the odds of flipping a coin and getting heads three times in a row? 1/2 times 1/2 times 1/2 = 1/8, or one out of eight. In other words, 12.5%. Not very good odds. The point is, it is hard to find a home and lot with a shop that fits all your unique requirements.
Home with a Shop
I show homes regularly to clients looking for a shop or parking for their motor home. This week my clients and I found the perfect shop building with plenty of room for my client’s motor home. But the home wasn’t right for them. Then we found another property with an acceptable shop/barn, and the home was good, but the lot and location were unacceptable. It’s practically a miracle to find the perfect home in the perfect location with the ideal shop building.

These four properties represented in the photo are all for sale. The one in the top left comes with a beautiful log home on a bluff. A log home with a water view is not for everyone. The big shop in the upper right has a two story home with a guest apartment in the daylight basement. A home with stairs is not for everyone. The big shop in the lower left is on 5 acres and the house has kitchen counters higher than standard. That isn’t for everyone. The lower right shop is on 10 acres and has a luxury home overlooking Port Angeles with a stunning water view. That’s not for everyone.
